Chris Slade describes the son et lumiere presentation at the abbey of Bon Repos called "Le Pays de Conomor" in Brittany, which takes place during the first two weeks of August.
This year, we have had an amazing autumn, with probably the best weather of the year.
In fact, I went in the sea more times in September than the rest of the year, and even swam in the pool as late as October 20th.
It’s a shame that people are so restricted by school holidays, as September often has some of the best weather, and there is hardly anyone around.
I joined another band in September: the Perros-Guirec harmony. They play at a good level, and I already have a bunch of mates from the jazz fanfare who play with them, so fitting in is no problem.
They vary between 30-40 players. The only down side is that this autumn they will be doing a series of 6 Verdi concerts with a “chorale” (classical music not my favorite type of music), but it’s a good discipline to read music correctly.
Normally, they do half classic and half big band/swing, which is more interesting for me.
The odd coincidence when I joined up was that there were 2 other players from Lannion there, as they are also depressed by the standard of music there.
It seems the new director will be Veronique’s copain. He also conducts the Tregor orchestra. He must like a challenge.
My plastic car has come back from the garage after its accident (not our fault). The “expert ” put the damage estimate at 3000 euros and only valued the car at 2500 euros, which is rubbish, as you can’t buy a replacement for that, so we had it repaired at the local “caisse22″.
It’s a car scrapyard with a garage attached, so he used second hand plastic bits. He repaired it for 2100 euros, and put it through the controle for the equivalent of a MOT, but then Mr ”expert” said it needed extras (a long list, brand new tyres ,brakes, etc) which came to another 1200 euros which we have to pay for before the insurance will pay the first bill. What a crazy system.
