Covid complications causing concerns

Martin and Nadine haven’t been to France since January, and Covid complications certainly are an issue and a constant worry. It seems sorting out a ferry crossing isn’t the only hurdle. Is it better to go or to cancel?

On 1st July 2012, a law was introduced in France: all drivers had to carry a breath test kit in their car. Find out why and if or how that law was implemented. Read more about the driving requirements in France.

Kouign-amann vs Lardy cake

Kouign-amann is a beautiful, buttery, traditional Breton cake. During the current lockdown, unable to travel to Brittany, we have found an alternative: the British lardy cake. Read on.

Exporting a UK-bought LHD car to France

Is it possible or indeed practical to buy a LHD car in the UK, originally registered in Poland, and then import it to France? Are there guidelines to be followed?

Driving in France

In recent years, travelling across to the continent and driving in France has become increasingly easy for Brits, but there are laws and regulations to bear in mind while driving abroad.

Usborne books representative in Brittany and NormandyBeen a mad few weeks! We were supposed to be going back to the UK on 1st December for a few days, but the snow came down on Dinard airport and the flight was cancelled. Fortunately a friend called just as we were literally going out of the door, so in the end we didn’t venture out of Mohon and make a fruitless journey to the north coast. Some friends were due to be coming in on the same flight that we were catching out, and they didn’t manage to get back until Saturday evening, and that was into Nantes, not Dinard. Looking at the weather and the road conditions back in Yorkshire where we were intending to go, I was actually quite relieved that our plans were scuppered. I think it would have been a challenging few days to say the least!

As it was we decided that we would put the tree up and Xmas decorations instead, so the house looks all Christmassy now. Decided that we will have duck rather than turkey on Xmas day for a change, but I still need to buy crackers.

Have been busy with Usborne and by chance when I was talking to someone at a Christmas Fair, it was mentioned that AIKB are putting on a pantomime this year in January, over in Gouarec. I used to do a fair bit of Am-Dram in my youth so although it’s not very late on in rehearsals, I rang up to be welcomed with open arms as ‘Villager 3’ and braved the bitter cold (and it was just as cold in the hall where we were rehearsing!) to go to my first rehearsal last Tuesday. The pantomime, which is Cindrella, is on 15th and 16th of January, so I will post some more details nearer the time on here.

Also if there are any ladies out there who would like the chance to buy good quality ladieswear, then I am having a festive ‘ladieswear clearance sale‘ at my house, 18 Rue du Moulin 56490 Mohon , on Monday 13th December 2-5pm. There will be mulled wine and nibbles provided. The clothes are from a ladieswear unit that I used to have in the UK before moving to France. There are some new, most though are ‘as new’ and they are all good makes like M&S, Principles, River island, Next, Per Una, Planet, Jacques Vert etc. Huge range of sizes and all at silly prices, so if you are craving the labels that you know and love, why not come along for a session of dressing up and grabbing a bargain? All welcome!
