Today is La Rentrée

All over France, today, children have returned to school and parents have returned to work.

But, before parents can return to work, they must ensure that their children have a ‘bonne rentrée’ and to this end, both parents are expected to take their children to school on the first day of the new school year.

This morning, the playground at Henri Matisse Primary School in Reminiac was full of parents drinking coffee and passing the time of day… it was more like a coffee morning than the first day of school!

Henri Matisse Primary School is a small school with just 29 pupils and two teachers… but this year it is all change.

The teacher of the older children has left to teach in the neighbouring town, Guer. Parents and pupils were shocked… this is indeed shocking news for a community as small as Reminiac!

Iona has had the same teacher for the last four years so I hope she’ll get on with the new maîtresse.
