Chris Slade describes the son et lumiere presentation at the abbey of Bon Repos called "Le Pays de Conomor" in Brittany, which takes place during the first two weeks of August.
Every couple of years children have a school medical. Up until they are 6 years old parents are invited to attend these medicals where children are weighed, measured, given sight and hearing tests and asked some very carefully thought out questions to give the doctors a pretty clear indication of their home life!
Iona had her medical recently. At 9 years old, she went alone. When I picked her up at lunchtime, I asked how it had gone.
That sounds like odd advice to me. I have just compared the calcium content of 300ml milk (360mg.) and 25g reduced fat Cheddar cheese (210mg.). Assuming that the cheese course isn’t significantly larger than 25g then it looks like the milk gives a better return. Of course, there might be other dietary considerations behind the advice, but without the doctor fully taking account of the diet as a whole then it sounds odd indeed – and at an age when your daughter may well be highly influenced.
I would be interested to hear how this develops, and whether any other readers have had a similar experience…
