We have heard a lot of anecdotal, and sometimes conflicting, views on how the French Property Rental market is standing up to the economic crisis and declining value of the pound. We have certainly noticed how much more expensive it is to buy food, pay bills, and eat out in France this year.

We’ve been surprised that our bookings have surpassed last year’s by a long way, brilliant result!
Our bookings have been at least equal to last year though a lot of people waiting until the last min and offers very popular.
Bookings for next year coming in surprisingly early.

2007 with no pool = welcome cottages = 4.5 weeks
2008 = pool = holrent = 7.5 weeks
2009 = ” ” = 16 weeks
2010 = “+bikes ” = 12.2 weeks Had a lot more last minute “offers” this year
2011 put all prices down out of peak season, and had first bookings, which on par for previous yrs.
This is our first year for taking booking at the Le Moulin De Guermeur gite.
we have been booked from Febuary till october with some gaps in between,so a great start for us in 2010!

We let our house as well as the gite last year as there was such a demand in the summer so repeated this year. Only 1 English family for 2 weeks though whereas it was evenly split in 2009 with the French plus two Spanish families. Also more chambre d’hote. Echo about last minute and special deals comment though we increased or July and August prices this year and reduced for other months.
More international guests this year – Australians, New Zealanders – due to weaker
Not many booking out of season in 2010 especially May & June, but already have 3 weeks booked in May for next year and enquiries coming in for early July. We had a plunge pool which we never advertised but we are having a wooden sided pool put in this winter, which will be great, but having the amazing beaches of the Vendee coast close by is also very popular, especially as there are some fabulous restaurants right on the coast.
Re bookings, this year I had 17 weeks booked whereas I had 20 in 2009.
It has been more or less around 20 weeks every year since 1998 when we bought the cottage, then almost a ruin. Even so we only bought it as a holiday home for us and our francophone friends so many weeks are occupied by us and any lettings help to pay for us to have a great time in la belle France.
We were very short of bookings in May June & September this year 2010 compared to last year. We had 3 lots of people who re-booked from the year before so taking that into account I would definately say bookings were down. Already for 2011 we have more bookings than this time last year people seem keener to see more & more photos and read recommendations, I suppose just to prove we are boni-fide. We are on a web site called www. recommendedfamilyholidays.com where recommendations gets you to the top 25 or so properties which I think is a great idea. Like the previous blog we bought our house 12 years ago and have spent lots of time doing it up really for us to have great holidays there so any lettings are a bonus but I do love it when peolpe ring us up saying they have had a great time, makes it all worth while.
